Welcome!

On July 14, 2003, Valerie Plame Wilson, a CIA operative, was outed in an article written by Robert Novak and published in The New York Times. Her full name appeared in the article after 18 years of service and working hard to create her cover and keep her real occupation a secret. During her time as an operative, Valerie used her own name, "Valerie Plame", while acting as various representatives of non-CIA based companies. At the time of her name being leaked, Valerie was working at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia while ocassionally taking trips overseasas part of the Directorate of Central Intelligence Nonproliferation Center. A year and a half before the leak, Valerie's husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, took a trip for the CIA to Niger to inspect an alleged sale of yellowcake uranium. This trip led to the downward spiral that eventually led to the reveal of Valerie's name. Using their books, "Fair Game" by Valerie Plame Wilson and "The Politics of Truth" by Joseph Wilson, the Wilson's uncovered the truth of what happened during the time of the leak. There was also a movie made in 2007 called Fair Game which is supposedly based on both of the previously mentioned books. Although Hollywood painted the events somewhat accurately, there were parts of the movie that portrayed the creative license that Hollywood so often uses. There were also events left out of the movie which is a framing strategy. According to the "Media Effects Theories and Concepts" provided by Dr. Cooper and Dr. Pease, "[F]rames simultaneously direct attention away from other aspects. Most frames are defined by what they omit as well as include (Entman, p. 54)." Through this blog, our group, The Sister Wives, uncover the truth and "truthiness" of Fair Game, the movie.
