For this final project, we analyzed how true the movie Fair Game is, as well as the themes, frames and ideologies of the movie. Through our analysis we found that there was an equal amount of truth and "truthiness" throughout the film. As we delved deeper into the story of Valerie Plame, we found that there was a lot more to the story than what the movie portrayed. The directors and screenwriters ommitted quite a bit of information as well as changed the timeline of events to create a better depiction, in their minds, of the story.
We also found that, because the movie was made a few years after the Plame case took place, there was a lot more information brought into the movie than what was actually going on at the time. For example, they used news articles that were published in 2007 when the movie was supposed to be taking place in 2003.
There was one major theme in the movie, which we discussed on our "Themes and Frames" tab of this blog. That major theme contributed to the movie and added the feeling of potential empowerment to the movie viewers.
In conclusion, the movie Fair Game was a somewhat accurate depiction of the real event involving Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson. Doug Liman, the director, as well as Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, used their creative license to make a more entertaining movie. They emphasized the Wilson's marriage almost as much as they covered the actual facts surrounding the Plame name leak.
We would give this movie 3 stars out of a possible 5.
